Families as Partners
Your family is part of our school community.
At Lower Plenty Primary School, we value the knowledge, ideas and experience families bring. You know your child best, and a strong partnership between home and school helps us support their learning, confidence and growth.
Our small community offers opportunities to build relationships with staff and other families, contribute your skills and take an active role in school life.
Ways To Get Involved
We warmly welcome parents and carers to participate through:
-
Parents and Friends Association (PFA): Help organise events, support fundraising and bring our community together.
-
School Council: Nominate for an elected position and contribute to the school’s direction and priorities.
-
Classroom volunteering: Support learning activities and share your skills or interests.
-
Excursions and camps: Assist with experiences that take learning beyond the classroom.
-
Working bees: Join other families to help care for our grounds and facilities.
-
Canteen volunteering: Help provide a service our students enjoy.
Participation can also mean attending school events, staying informed through school communications and keeping in touch with your child’s teacher. We appreciate that families have different schedules, and contributions of all sizes are valued.
Share Your Ideas and Skills
You might have a practical skill, creative interest or professional experience that could enrich our students’ learning. We would love to hear your ideas.
Parents and Friends Association
Connecting families. Supporting students. Strengthening our community.
Our Parents and Friends Association (PFA) brings families together to make a positive contribution to life at Lower Plenty Primary School.
Through fundraising, events and practical support, the PFA helps enrich students’ experiences and creates opportunities for families to connect.
The PFA works to:
-
Raise funds for resources and opportunities that benefit students.
-
Encourage parents and carers to participate in school life.
-
Support the work of School Council.
-
Contribute to the wellbeing of students, staff and our wider school community.
Everyone Is Welcome
The PFA meets twice each term, with upcoming meetings advertised in the school newsletter. Meetings are open to all parents and guardians, along with guests invited by the association.
Whether you have an idea to share, would like to help with an event or simply want to meet other families, you are welcome to come along. You can contribute in ways that suit your interests and availability.
Parent Helpers
Sharing your time and skills makes a difference.
Parent and carer volunteers enrich learning experiences and strengthen our school community. At Lower Plenty Primary School, we warmly welcome your involvement and value the time, skills and enthusiasm you contribute.
Opportunities may include helping in classrooms, supporting excursions and camps, or assisting with school activities. Invitations are shared through newsletters, excursion notices and conversations with staff.
Working Together
Staff provide guidance so volunteers understand their role and feel confident helping. We ask all parent helpers to:
-
Follow staff directions and school expectations.
-
Treat students, staff and families with kindness and respect.
-
Protect the privacy of children and families by keeping personal information confidential.
-
Support all children involved in the activity, rather than only their own child.
-
Help create a cooperative, welcoming environment.
Volunteer Requirements
Before you begin, the school will confirm the screening and induction requirements for your role, including any required Working with Children Check or additional suitability checks.
For overnight excursions and camps, our school requires parent helpers to hold a current Working with Children Check and Police Check. Please speak with the school office well in advance so the required checks can be organised and verified.

A Community Resource by Lower Plenty Primary School
One of the foundations of strong communities with healthy people (both mind and body) is access to education.
This free and growing resource is our way of sharing positive and inspiring messages that we feel will have a direct and positive impact on our community.

A Word From Our Parents
Lower Plenty has taught my son not only about academics but also so much about himself. The school model allows him to explore his thoughts and ideas– through both successes and failures – pushing him beyond his own preset boundaries. The teachers celebrate his successes and steadfastly stand by his side with support when it is needed. It’s a wonderful environment to grow in.
